Organize A Thesis By Following The Procedure
Jun 25, 2021

A thesis is a written record of the work that a candidate has completed. It serves as objective proof of the author`s knowledge and abilities in the subject area. A thesis is, above all, an attempt to communicate. Curiosity leads to experimentation and analysis, which leads to findings that are shared with the larger community of scientists and, in some cases, the general public.

What is the best way to organize a thesis or dissertation?

There is no one-size-fits-all formula for writing a thesis. It`s crucial to look at some examples in your field early on just to get a sense of what they`re like. The simplest way to do this is to go to the university library and look at some past student examples. Even if you are not currently enrolled in university, you can go and visit the library of your nearest university.

It is critical to carefully plan your thesis. One of the decisions you`ll have to make is how to organize your thesis or dissertation in the best way. The following is an example of a thesis or dissertation structure:

Title page: One page with your full name, title, date, and the degree for which the project was submitted.

Abstract: A one-page project summary summarizing the project`s goals, background, methods, and findings. This should be the last section of your work to be written!

Contents: The chapters, figures, and diagrams are listed in tables.

• Chapter 1: Background and context – A discussion of the study`s background and why it is important and interesting as a research project.

• Chapter 2: Literature review – A summary of the literature review`s findings.

• Chapter 3: Research methodology – A detailed description of the methodology you used in your thesis.

• Chapters 4–6: Data presentation and analysis – The results are presented, interpreted, and analyzed in the chapters.

Chapter 7: Discussion and conclusions – The ‘big picture` chapter, which presents the overall findings, the ‘answer` to the research question, and a research critique.

Bibliography: A list of the references and additional reading you have done.

Appendices: You may include any additional information you wish. This could be detailed data or samples of ‘raw` results such as computer printouts, interview notes, or a sample questionnaire.

You will be able to select the exact number of chapters. In a doctoral thesis, you may need one or more data presentation and analysis chapters. The chapters do not have to be all the same length, it may be different. It is difficult to give guidelines on how long each section should be because each thesis or dissertation is unique.

Some Restrictions and Examples

According to David Frum, a thesis should be as clear and specific as possible. "Communism collapsed in Eastern Europe due to the ruling elite`s inability to address the people`s economic concerns," he claims. Frum: An effective thesis makes a specific, debatable claim about economic disintegration. He claims that the thesis "communism collapsed because communism is evil" is ineffective.
